WSTA is honored on the celebration of the International Day of Volunteer Work in Bahrain.

The Ministry of Social Development in the Kingdom of Bahrain organized a ceremony honoring 130 civil society organizations on the occasion of International Volunteer Day, including the Gulf Water Science and Technology Association, in the presence of the Minister of Social Development, His Excellency Osama bin Ahmed Khalaf Al-Asfoor, with the participation of government and private institutions, heads and representatives of civil society organizations and individual volunteers.
The Minister of Social Development praised the efforts of the people of the Kingdom of Bahrain, who set the most wonderful examples of sincerity and giving in service to society, presented a pioneering model in the field of volunteer work, and employed their potential and capabilities to achieve progress for the Kingdom of Bahrain, to support the comprehensive development process under the prosperous reign of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and the support and follow-up of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
In his opening speech, the Minister announced the launch of the National Social Work Fund in a new form, to keep pace with aspirations in the development field, in addition to motivating civil society organizations to innovate and implement qualitative social projects, within the framework of consolidating national efforts, in accordance with the principles of community partnership with various sectors, where support comes. Institutions and banks in the Kingdom are part of the National Social Action Fund, to enhance social responsibility, and for the optimal investment of financial grants allocated to support civil society organizations, in service of social development programs and projects in the Kingdom.
For his part, the WSTA Executive Director, Engineer Ali Redha Hussain, thanked this generous gesture by the Ministry of Social Development, on the occasion of the International Volunteer Day, stressing that this honor is a great morale boost for the Association to achieve its goals that contribute in better understanding of the needs associated with the Water resources sustainability in the GCC countries.
While Engineer Muhammad Ali Siwar, WSTA Treasurer, praised this honor, which supports the continuation of the involvement of the civil societies in improving the performance of these non-profit organizations to be a partner in achieving sustainable development. In serving the local and Gulf community, pointing out that the GCC governments’ interest has been focused on supporting those active Associations to works towards enhance the culture of continuity and competitiveness and maximizes the sustainable development role in their various projects. It also encourages commitment to the social responsibility approach and providing more practices and initiatives aimed at spreading awareness of the culture of volunteer work and its importance in the society.

The Water Science and Technology Association wins the General Secretariat Award for Voluntary Work for Water Societies in the Gulf Countries.

The Gulf Water Science and Technology Association (WSTA) won the Voluntary Work Award for Water NGOs in the Gulf Region, which was launched by the General Secretariat of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf Countries aiming to enrich the spirit of competition among Gulf volunteer NGOs specialized in water affairs.

The Director of the Energy Department in the General Secretariat of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf, Dr. Muhammad Falah Al-Rashidi, said that the General Secretariat launched this award with the aim of appreciating the efforts made by voluntary associations in the field of water in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries to encourage volunteer work and help associations perform their mission in serving Gulf communities in the field of water, and recognizing the role of volunteerism in improving the sustainability of the water sector in the GCC countries.

Water Sciences

& Technology Association

The concept of formation of Water Sciences and Technology Association (WSTA) was the result of individual efforts of some of those concerned with water affairs in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Countries. The Government of Bahrain consented to register the Association in Bahrain, and the Association was formally founded in September 1987, to be the first scientific association in the field of water sciences and technology in the Arabian Gulf region. The WSTA is a non-government organization and its WSTA membership is open to all water professionals in the GCC, water-related national and international organizations, educational institutes, consultants, and companies.

OBJECTIVES

  • To encourage and promote interest in water sciences and strengthen scientific ties among water professionals in the GCC countries.
  • To encourage scientific research, training programs, and the development of local capabilities in the different fields of water sciences and technology.
  • To act to conserve water and participate in water awareness campaigns leading to optimum utilization of water.
  • To provide studies, information, and statistics related to water in the GCC Countries and to publish such through the different information and publicity channels
  • To cooperate with universities and research centers in the different fields of water sciences and technology.
